"A damp monsoon
morning! We were
starving when
AIM ASIA touched
down with
food supplies..."
“Ma’am, we are starving!” the voice choked as the caller continued.
“My name is Kasaiah. I am a leprosy patient. There are 50
leprosy families in my colony who live on the alms. Since it has been raining
continuously for a week, we have not been able to go
out begging. There is no food, nothing. Could you
please help us?"
I was not home when Suchitra received this call. It
was a damp monsoon morning. The leprosy patients
needed help desperately. She too was desperate
to reach me on my cell phone. When she connected,
she related the sad story and wanted to know how we
could help
.
“Well, we have no funds for leprosy work,” was my
immediate response. But if the Lord wanted us to
take help, He would find a way.
On my return to Hyderabad, I shared this ministry
opportunity with a few friends. And the leprosy
service got started. We have been supporting leprosy
families in the outskirts of Hyderabad for several
years. My good friend David Goodnight and his team
have now committed to support 50 leprosy victims
regularly.
Medical experts say, leprosy makes a person
short-tempered. But this is the happiest group of
people I have ever met. Some of our friends who have
visited them know how contagious their joy is when
they worship. I have also found some prayer warriors among them
who pray for our ministry continually.
There are over 50,000 leprosy patients in the
suburbs of Hyderabad who are in desperate need. Social taboo does not permit
them to work.
The
dreadful manifestations of leprosy bring immeasurable suffering and sorrow. Ulcers cause
irreversible deformities. Leprosy victims are forced out of
their homes and society to live in the streets
begging alms.
AIM ASIA provides monthly
support to hundreds of leprosy patients. $15 a month
can buy basic necessities like food, clothes and
medicine to a leprosy victim. Your generosity will prevent them
from being beggars to live a life of dignity.
